I provide support for the deployment of Open Source applications like iTALC, Scribus, Open Office, Gimp as well as several other open source and multi–platform applications.
Support for certain freeware applications like Free Proxy is also provided.
End-User Training as well as migration assistance (for example converting from proprietary to open document format , an ISO standard) can also be provided.
Installation Configuration and Support for Free Proxy
Installation, Configuration and support is
provided for for Free Proxy. Free proxy enables several users to share a single internet connection. The users
who can use the internet connection can be restricted, if required by the use of authentication
or by the use of IP address filtering i.e banning certain PC from connecting to the internet.
Further it is also possible to restrict the users to using only one service for example email and prevent them
from using other services. Also, there is a provision to stop users from accessing certain websites if required
or prevent users from accessing the internet during certain hours. The Various features of Free Proxy are listed below.
Features of Free Proxy:
- Enables several users to share a single internet connection
- Ability to Configure Users who can use the internet and prevent unauthorised use
- Ability to restrict users to one or more services and prevent them from using other services (for example P2P services)
- Can Restrict Internet usage to certain times during the day
- Facility for caching of web pages for faster access
- Facility to prevent some (or all) users from accessing certain websites
- Acts as a firewall between the internet and your local network
Installation Configuration and Support for iTALC
iTALC is an extremely useful and powerful tool for teachers. It lets you view and control other computers in your network in several ways. The teacher can view each students desktop and monitor their activities.With the demo option facility the teachers desktop can be shown to some or all the students at the same time.This can be done in a window or full screen mode. Installation Configuration and Support for Scribus
Scribus is an Open Source full featured Desktop Publishing application. It brings professional
page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOSX and Windows desktops with a combination of "press-ready" output
and new approaches to page layout.
Scribus has rapidly developed into one of the premier desktop applications for Linux.
Scribus has a modern and user friendly interface and supports professional publishing
features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC color management and versatile PDF creation.
Scribus was the first DTP application on the planet to directly support PDF/X-3 output, a
rigorous ISO standard.
Other features include PDF Import, EPS import/export, Unicode text
including right to left scripts. Scribus also has unexpected touches such as: useful vector
drawing tools, SVG import/export and support for OpenType Fonts. The Scribus file format is
XML based; open and completely documented.
Installation Configuration and Support for Open Office
Open Office is a free, Open source and cross platform (It works on Windows, Linux, Mac as well
as a few other OS) Office Suite which has Word processing, Spreadsheet as well as Presentation components.Besides there is also a vector drawing component
for drawing flowcharts and block diagrams. You can open files created by the most popular commercial office suites in Open Office
as well as save in all popular formats. The additional feature which Open Office has over other popular office suites is the ability
to export as a *.pdf file.In additions the presentations created can be exported to flash format(*.swf).
For windows, it is available in
two versions – The portable version which you can install in your pendrive and the regular
version which has to be installed like any other application.
Installation Configuration and Support for Mozilla Thunderbird
Mozilla Thunderbird is a free, Open source and cross platform (It works on Windows, Linux, Mac as well
as a few other OS) e-mail client. The additional feature which Thunderbird has over other popular e-mail clients is a built-in Spam filter.
Once you have trained it to separate the Spam from the wanted mail, it will do so effortlessly with an accuracy rate of almost 100% within a short
period of time.
For windows, it is available in two versions – The portable version which you can install in your pendrive
and access your mail from any PC connected to the internet and the regular version which has to be installed like any other application.
Installation Configuration and Support for Other Applications
Support is also provided for several other applications including Gimp and Inkscape.
Gimp is a very versatile image editing software with support for layers, and an array of tools to match the best
commercial software.
In the latest version there is also a plugin available for CMYK format after
which the images can be used in scribus, a DTP application if the images are required to be used
for print purposes.
Inkscape is an open source vector drawing tool that uses the W3C standard scalable vector graphics format
(SVG). Some supported SVG features include basic shapes, paths, text, markers, clones, alpha blending, transforms,
gradients, and grouping.
