Installation, Configuration And Support For Google Analytics - Track Your Web Site Traffic Now
I will briefy explain to you the importance of analysing your web traffic with an analytics software like Google Analytics. I provide installation, configuration and support for Google Analytics.
Importance Of Analysing Your Web Traffic and Web Statistics
Web analytics is of great importance as it enables us to track the
web traffic to our website. By Analysing our website statistics we can make changes
that can improve the accessibility and rankings of our web site in search results.
An Analytics software
like Google Analytics will let us know for example the effectiveness of our adwords campaign.
It does this by recording the number of visitors that have visited our customised landing page that
is linked to our adwords advertisement.
Among the variables tracked by a good analytics
software are Referring Web Sites, Referring Keywords both paid (like Adwords) as well as organic, Total Visits,
Page Views, Unique Visitors, Pages viewed by Title as well as URL, Visitors Location Information (By Country as well
as the specific region within the Country)
as well as the capabilities of the visitors computer such as Web Browser used, Operating System,
Monitor Resolution and Internet Connection type. Some analytics packages also record entry as well as exit pages and lots of other
information.
Google Analytics Menu
Google Analytics Menu is subdivided into the following main sections.
The Dashboard gives the site overview. The Visitors section is again subdivided into several more subsections like Map Overlay,
New vs Returning, Visitor Trending which is subdivided into Visits, Absolute Unique Visitors, Pageviews,
Average Pageviews, Time On Site and Bounce Rate.
The other sections in the visitors section are
Visitor Loyalty, Browser Capabilities and Network Properties.
The Browser Capabilities is subdivided into Browsers, Operating Systems, Screen Resolutions, Flash Versions and a few more reports.
The Traffic Sources section has several reports among them the important ones being
are Overview, Direct Traffic, Referring Sites, Search Engines, Keywords, Adwords.
The content section included
Overview, Top Content, Content By Title, Top Landing Pages, Top Exit Pages, and Site
overlay where you can see the percentage of site visitors that clicked on the links on a
particular page on the site.
Map Overlay
The Geomap report gives us a graphical representation using a word map, of the countries from where our visitors come from. If we want to know the cities from where the visitors are located in their respective countries we can click on the country and we will be taken to the map of the respective country with a city wise break up of the visitors.
Pageviews for all visitors
This report shows the Pageviews for all visitors who have visited our site. A page view is the successful loading of a page of our website in the visitors browser.
Browsers
This report shows the various Browsers used by all the visitors who have visited our site.
Traffic Sources Overview
The Traffic Sources Overview report gives us a summary of the sources of traffic to our website. If we are not satisfied with the summary we can also get the detailed report which will give us all the sources i.e the search engines, referring websites as well as the keywords used by the visitors to search the site.
Keywords Report
The Keywords report gives a list of all keywords that visitors have entered in the search engines to get to your site. This report gives you a valuable metric of what people are trying to find in your site. If your site does not have the information that site visitors are trying to find you can try to provide it as soon as possible.
Content Related reports
The content section included
Overview, Top Content, Content By Title, Top Landing Pages, Top Exit Pages, and Site
overlay.
The Overview report in this section gives the summary which includes the page views, unique page views
and top content (the top 5 URLs). The Top content gives you the full list of URLs that have been viewed in descending order.
Likewise the Content by Title gives the full list of pages by Page Title that have been viewed in descending order.
The first page viewed by a site visitor in a particular visit is called the landing page. The
Top Landing Pages report gives the pages from which the site vistors have entered your site. Like wise the
Top Exit Pages report gives the pages from which the the site vistors have left your site.
Site Overlay Report
The Site
overlay gives a picture of a particular page of your site where you can see the percentage of site visitors that clicked on the links on a
that particular page. On the site overlay report a particular page of your website is displayed along with
little bar graphs next to each link on your page. The number of clicks is graphically displayed as well as expressed as a percentage.
This is illustrated in the figure below, where the menu bar is shown.
Entrances and Exit Reports
The entrances reports gives the pages through which the vistor enters our site. On each visit the page first viewed by the visitor is called the "Entrance" page. This report gives us a very useful statistic as we can pay extra attention to these pages so as to encourage the site visitor to view other pages in our site. Similarly the Exits reports gives the pages through which the vistor leaves the site.
